TrueLove Sound is owned and operated
by Jeffrey & Layla Dudley.
We started our company in 2003 which also happened to be the same year we began our engagement to marry. Our company name became a symbol for our engagement, our feelings about each other and our passion for music, and music mixing.
We started out like virtually every other Dj company out there. We put an ad in the yellow pages and priced ourselves competitively in our market. We took any work we could get, and did what we were expected to do, make people dance and make announcements. The problem was, although all of our clients were telling us we did a wonderful job & loved the music we provided, our phone was not ringing, our email inbox was virtually empty most of the time, and the referrals were very few in number. Understandably frustration slowly crept in and we began to question what we were doing wrong.
During the Spring of 2006 we got a call from the president of the Oregon & SW Washington chapter of the American Disc Jockey Association. He asked if we would be interested in coming aboard to get educated and network with other djs in our market. We agreed and soon after found this to be one of the best decisions we could have ever made for our business. We ended up meeting a fantastic group of people willing to share their knowledge and assist us any way they could. We discovered a completely new way of doing business, relating to clients, and performing. We realized that the reason we were not getting referrals was because we were doing what virtually every other dj company was doing, going through the motions of signing the contracts, showing up, playing music, announcing the activities and leaving.
The most important lesson we feel we have learned, with help from our ADJA colleagues, is that weddings are supposed to be emotionally uplifting and meaningful, but it takes a lot of love, care, creativity and skill on the part of the DJ / Director to help make that happen. (the special moments do not happen on their own) What is a wedding but the culmination of all of the emotional and special moments shared by a couple? Why not, in addition to providing a great party, find ways to creatively share the story of those special moments? By engaging in creative story telling, and activities that reflect the couple’s tastes and interests, the entire event is given a tremendously enhanced sense of meaning for all in attendance and they remember it for a lifetime.
Looking at where we are now compared to 2003 is amazing to us. We have taken our company to a whole new level in a very short amount of time. We are involved in detailed planning, we are directing, we are getting to know our clients personally and writing creative scripts that tell their story. We are assembling dynamic video and audio presentations to “enhance” the story telling, practicing and rehearsing the scripts, attending wedding rehearsals, directing them if needed, guiding, advising and hand holding for the nervous couples.... We also coordinate with the other vendors, we do detailed on site inspection of the venue well before the wedding... the list goes on and on.
We have grown to absolutely love what we do, there is absolutely no looking back to the days of just playing music & making announcements. The smiles & hugs afterwards and the follow up phone calls & emails from our clients months later telling us their friends and family are still talking about their wedding is what makes our our job so so rewarding. We are still in touch with the majority of our clients from 2006 - 2009.
Here is an email we received 7-1-09 from a happy client from 8-31- 2008.

Jeffrey + Layla Can you believe it's been almost a year since Sondra and I got married? Married life is nothing short of awesome and we couldn't be happier. Anyway, the main purpose for this email was to again thank you guys so much for your services at our reception. We've received compliment after compliment on the organization and seamlessness of our big day. Since our wedding we've been to a few others and seen first hand what a poor DJ/Master of Ceremonies can do to the reception as well as stress level of the bride. We both couldn't have been happier with the way you two handled things. Neither one of us ever had to worry about what was going to happen next or if everything was being taken care of. Also we thought it was really cool to get our own personalized send off to Maui.
Thanks again
